(KMOV.com) -- A woman was shot in the head after witnessing an apparent burglary in south St. Louis.
According to police, a man and woman in their 20s were driving near the intersection of Lafayette and South Grand just before 4 a.m. Sunday. When making a turn, they reportedly came across a male and female rummaging through the trunk of a parked car.
When the two suspects realized they had been spotted, police say the male suspect jumped in front of the victims' vehicle and brandished a gun.
Police say the driver tried to escape by throwing the car into reverse, but the suspect shot into the vehicle, hitting the female passenger in the head.
The driver transported the female victim to the hospital, where she is listed in critical condition.
