When it comes to producing hit records and underground classics, Patrick Douthit just might actually be the 9th wonder of the world. The Grammy Award winning producer who has turned out hits for artists such as Erykah Badu, Destiny’s Child, Jean Grae, Jay-Z, and a host of others is also a DJ, NAACP ambassador, Duke UnivPublish Postersity professor, and CEO of “It’s A Wonderful World Music Group.” With such an impressive list of titles under his belt, I’m starting to think that there is nothing that this man cannot do!
As if that was not enough, LRG recently teamed up with Price Films to give fans a glimpse into the life of one of soul music’s most dynamic figures. The Wonder Year is a film that follows 9th Wonder from his childhood home to late nights in the studio and everywhere else in between. Watching the trailer for the film leads me to believe that 9th is a man that rarely stops working. I’m extremely excited to see the life behind one of Hip-Hop’s most defining and one of my personal favorite music producers.
The Wonder Year features appearances by Drake, DJ Premier, DJ Green Lantern, J. Cole, Murs, Sha Money XL, Young Guru, The Alchemist & more. All of them speak on 9th Wonder’s enormous impact on music and some speak on what it was like collaborating with him. I’m sure one of the highlights of the film would have to be hearing Phonte of Little Brother speak about the prolific producer. 9th Wonder began his career as the main producer for Little Brother but left the group in 2007.
Want to see the film? While no official release date has been set, there is an online petition going to bring a screening to your hometown. Anyone who serious about hip-hop and an avid lover of the genre needs to see this film! If you’re not familiar with 9th Wonder at all, I’m sure this would be a great place to start.
