Besiktas Turkey Retires Deron Williams' Number *SWAGGG*

Turkey’s Besiktas Retires Deron Williams’ Jersey

With the NBA lockout seemingly in the rear-view mirror, it’s time for all those NBA players that left to play ball overseas to return to their respective NBA cities. Well, all except for JR Smith, Wilson Chandler Kenyon Martin and Aaron Brooks, apparently. One guy who will be making his way back home with more than just some extra cash is New Jersey Nets’ Deron Williams. The All-Star guard will also be bringing his now retired Turkish jersey. Yes, that’s right. All it took were 15 games for Williams to have his jersey retired. From USA Today:“Clearly, the bar for basketball greatness isn’t set too high in Turkey. The farwell party today for Deron Williams proved that today, as his Besiktas team retired his No. 8 jersey after 15 games. Seriously, 15 games. Deadspin says Williams was good for averages of 21.8 points and 6.5 assists during his stay in Istanbul, which has come to an end with the NBA lockout settled. Give the New Jersey Nets’ guard credit for realizing there wouldn’t be a quick fix for the lockout, and signing on to play in Turkey way back in July. He blogged about the experience for ESPN.com, and wrote that there wasn’t much culture shock, and that nearly everyone on the team and coaching staff spoke English. But just think. If the lockout had lasted another month or so, he probably would have been headed to Turkey’s Hall of Fame.”

How many players can say they did that? Best PG in the league......

Players Who Signed In China Won't Be Released From Contracts

Many players were reluctant to sign in China after a rule was established that there would be no provision to allow them to opt out if the NBA lockout was resolved.

Kenyon Martin

Kenyon Martin > Nowitzki

, Wilson Chandler and J.R. SmithJr Smith

are amongst the players who signed in China and there appears to be no willingness on the part of their teams to release them from their contact, according to sources.

> With NBA lockout over, Nets have work to do - Photo posted in BX SportsCenter | Sign in and leave a comment below!

Now that the NBA lockout is over, and the 2011-12 season will take place, the 30 league's teams will be hustling to get themselves together, signing free agents, putting together training camps, and getting ready to play in an abbreviated period. So they’ll all have to hit the ground running. Free agency begins and training camps open Dec. 9, and the season is expected to start Christmas Day.

What will the Nets’ top priorities be in getting ready for their last season in New Jersey?

1. Try and get Deron Williams to sign a contract extension
Offer him the maximum amount they’ll be allowed to offer under the new collective bargaining agreement and whatever else Billy King, Avery Johnson and Mikhail Prokhorov can think of that may entice the point guard to stay with the Nets instead of leaving as a free agent or forcing a trade.

2. When Williams tells them he isn’t ready to sign any extension yet, King and Johnson will then need to present him with the blueprint of the Nets’ plans for this season and next
It better include offering the moon to the Orlando Magic to try and acquire center Dwight Howard.

3. Sign a power forward
It could be Kris Humphries, if they can get him for a reasonable price, but if they can upgrade, do that. The biggest name available on the free agent market is Nene, who probably would come in to play center, with Brook Lopez moving to power forward. If Nene stays put in Denver, which is likely, then the Nets can consider re-signing Humphries, who exploded last season as a player turning himself into a double-digit rebounder. Humphries would have been more intriguing if he was still married to reality star Kim Kardashian, but with that marriage having ended after just 72 days, Humphries is back to just being a 6-foot-9 basketball player, and the Nets can’t be fooled into overvaluing him because of one good year. If Humphries costs too much, the Nets need to find a more sensible option, like, say, Teaneck native David West, who is coming off a knee injury, but, if healthy, would present a better scoring option.

4. Sign their two first-round picks, MarShon Brooks and Jordan Williams
Brooks, especially, has a chance to crack the rotation this season as a much-needed shooter, and depending on what happens with Humphries or the power forward spot, Jordan Williams — who signed last week to play in Poland during the lockout — could get some playing time, too. Second round pick Bojan Bogdanovic is playing in Europe this season.

5. Get rid of Travis Outlaw
This one’s a no-brainer, and might actually be higher on the list. Details of the agreement between the NBA and its players haven't been announced, but all along it's been assumed the new deal will include some kind of amnesty provision which would allow teams to rid themselves of one particularly bad contract. And the five-year, $35 million contract Outlaw signed with the Nets in 2010 defines that.

6. Sign some bodies to fill out the roster
Before re-signing Humphries (or a replacement power forward), and before jettisoning Outlaw, they have just 11 players under contract. So there’s some work to do there.

7. Finalize the coaching staff
Up until now, Sam Mitchell remains under contract as the lead assistant to Johnson and P.J. Carlesimo is not. But as soon as things settle, Mitchell is expected be out and Carlesimo is expected to join the staff. It's also been reported that Mario Elie will join the staff as well.

Scheduled opener: Dec. 26 at Washington Wizards, 7 p.m. http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/2011/11/with_nba_lockout_over_the_nets.html

Young Jeezy’s Short Film ‘.38′

In the new 14-plus minute video for his single “.38” (from Thug Motivation 103: Hustlerz Ambition) Young Jeezy busies himself with the sort of activities that you would expect from a “Trap Star.” The clip, rendered in black and white, finds the Atlanta rapper as the star of a narrative that includes plenty of violence and betrayal. Scenes jump from the studio, to the streets and into a drug den, and although the mini-movie is fictional, it’s also intended to be semi-autobiographical.

After a bumpy road marked by plenty of delays, Young Jeezy’s fourth solo album,Thug Motivation 103: Hustlerz Ambition—also his first in three years—is finally scheduled for release on December 20. MTV News attended Jeezy’s listening party at New York City’s Quad Studios on December 3, where he previewed an album heavy on features and full of lessons that he’s picked up in the trap game.

NBA lockout: Five things to note on agreement

Photo: Derek Fisher of the NBA players' union. The NBA tentatively ended its 149-day lockout and is to start a 66-schedule on Christmas Day. Credit: Luis Sinco / Los Angeles Times / November 23, 2010

1. The owners overwhelmingly won. The NBA players essentially took a 12% pay cut by dropping down to their 57% share of basketball-related income to a near 50-50 split. The breakdown will involve a sliding scale in which players would annually receive 49% to 51% of revenue based on how well each season fared. That will involve a nearly $3-billion giveback to the owners should the deal last its full 10 years.

2. The players won a few small victories. The players made the right strategy in making sure the owners made concessions on various system issues. That included ensuring guaranteed contracts and avoiding a hard cap. The players will also receive raises when the league experiences revenue growth.

3. Owners have no reason to complain about losses. For those teams lamenting competitive imbalance, the new deal will inflict harsher luxury tax penalties for teams, such as the Lakers, that boast a high payroll. For those lamenting the supposed $300-million losses 22 of the 30 NBA teams experienced last season, there will be a more robust revenue sharing system to help such organizations. From here on out, any purported financial losses will directly reflect poor management decisions. Of course, that truth stood before, but there's less wiggle room for teams to make excuses.

4. Both sides still have to agree on peripheral issues. A majority of the NBA's 450 players will have to agree on the new collective-bargaining agreement in a vote. The majority of the 29 teams will have to as well, with the NBA-owned New Orleans Hornets surely to vote in favor of the deal. Although both sides agree on the overall framework, there are a few items still to discuss. That includes draft eligibility age, disciplinary items that include drug testing and how to assign players to the D-League.

5. The season will start Dec. 25 and operate on a 66-game schedule. The Lakers will start the 2011-12 campaign with a Christmas Day matchup with the Chicago Bulls. The remaining 65 games will become more compacted and end toward the end of April. Teams would be allowed to play each opponent twice and have eight games left over. But it remains unclear how the schedule will exactly be structured.

Still questioning toughness??

Sources: Jay Cutler has broken thumb

I think this injury had to do with Cutler showing that he has the "toughness" needed to play in this league. Problem is while out trying to prove this, he ended his season on this one play. All this after a great season......

CHICAGO -- Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler broke the thumb on his throwing hand during Sunday's 31-20 win over the San Diego Chargers, according to sources familiar with the situation, and the injury likely will keep him out for the final six games of the regular season.

Cutler plans to undergo further evaluation of the injury on Monday, but the injury will require surgery that will keep him out "at least the rest of the regular season," the sources said.

A team spokesman wouldn't confirm Cutler's injury.

With six games left on the schedule, the team is hopeful Cutler can return for the postseason, should the Bears advance.

Cutler completed 18 of 31 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns Sunday, and avoided a sack for just the second time in his past 30 games. According to ESPN Stats & Information, Cutler completed six of eight attempts under duress, including a third-quarter touchdown to Johnny Knox.

Under pressure, the quarterback produced a passer rating of 154.7 against the Chargers, which is interesting considering Cutler had attempted 81 passes under duress -- the most in the NFL -- for a passer rating of just 67.0 in the nine games headed into Sunday.

Cutler might have suffered the injury on a fourth-quarter interception to Antoine Cason on a pass intended for Knox, who slipped, essentially causing the turnover. In the attempt to make the tackle on Cason's 64-yard return, Cutler suffered the injury.

So the news of the quarterback's broken right thumb puts a damper on a red-hot outing that Bears coach Lovie Smith called "outstanding."

Cutler finished the game, completing his final two passes for 24 yards in the team's final drive.

With Cutler expected to miss time, the attention turns to backup Caleb Hanie, who will take over as the starter. A fourth-year veteran, Hanie played in two games in 2010, completing 8 of 14 passes for 66 yards and an interception.

Hanie also filled in for Cutler in the NFC title game, and hit 13-of-20 for 153 yards a touchdown and two interceptions in a loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Rookie Nathan Enderle is the only other healthy quarterback on the roster, which means there's a good chance the Bears plan on making an acquisition at the position. It's expected the Bears would consider quarterbacks with experience playing in the system of offensive coordinator Mike Martz.

Former Jaguars quarterback David Garrard -- with no experience in Martz's system -- seemed like a logical option, but he's just starting rehabilitation from back surgery and won't be able to undergo any contact for at least three weeks, according to a source.

J.R. Smith seriously injured playing in China

http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nba/163373/basketball-headlines?r=1

J.R. Smith injured his knee during his debut in the Chinese Basketball Association, and needed to be carried to an ambulance by his teammates.

The fact that he couldn't walk under his own power is obviously a dreadful sign, but he refused a wheelchair and reportedly told the ambulance to drive him to his hotel, where a nurse stayed with him. One observer said it "looked like a non-contact injury," which is another bad sign. We'll update his status once more is known.
