Remembering Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair

Three years ago today on July 4, 2009, former Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Steve McNair was shot and killed at the age of 36 in his downtown Nashville condominium by his 20-year-old mistress, Sahel Kazemi, in a murder-suicide.
“Air McNair,” who was selected out of Alcorn State by the Houston Oilers with the third overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft, became only the third player in league history to pass for 30,000 yards and run for an additional 3,500 yards in his career.
The three-time Pro Bowl selection and 2003 Co-MVP, who tossed 174 touchdowns, in comparison to 119 interceptions, for 31,304 yards, was famed for incredible toughness that allowed him to consistently perform despite the various injuries that plagued his time as a professional athlete.
McNair, who guided the Titans to the playoffs on four occasions and the Ravens once in 2007, came within a yard of possibly bringing the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Tennessee in a crushing 23-16 loss to the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXIV.
The Titan’s badass, who was married with four sons at the time of his death, was a borderline Hall of Fame signal-caller.
Sadly, Steve McNair’s achievements will always be overshadowed by the affair that led to him being smoked by a disturbed floozy in the Music City.

Steve Nash to Lakers

In an unforeseen twist that could thrust the Los Angeles Lakers straight back into title contention, two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash has successfully negotiated a sign-and-trade deal from the Phoenix Suns to the Los Angeles Lakers that will team him up with Kobe Bryant, according to sources with knowledge of the deal.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Nash, with the New York Knicks also pressing hard to complete a simiilar sign-and-trade deal, was swayed to join the Lakers after a determined push from Bryant and because the move not only keeps him in the title hunt but will allow Nash to stay in close proximity to his three children in Phoenix.
Nash will receive a three-year deal in excess of $25 million, sources said, because the Suns ultimately agreed to sign-and-trade him to the Lakers, who can absorb Nash via the trade exception they created by dealing Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks in December.

"St. Louis is calling for ceasefire"

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- One of the city’s most notorious gang members is calling for a cease fire.
“Yo Banga,” a north St Louis rapper who grew up in gangs and saw his best friend shot to death is out of prison.  Now, he’s working with Better Family Life.
His real name is Ladon Meriweather, and he’s pleading with young men, who grew up just like him, to stop the killings.
“I know what it’s like to be in jail. I know what it’s like to lose five years of my freedom over a street,” he said. “Over a street! And at the same time, that same street that I did all that protecting and defending, when I was sitting in jail for those five years, I can count on one hand how many times someone from that street visited me or put money on my books or went and took my kids some money - anything.”
Meriweather also takes his story to schools, telling young people the only way out of the drug game is jail or death.

"Few of us are fortunate enough to discover our passions and talents at an early age without having to go through a trial and error process to figure out where it is that we fit in. Some of us, for one reason or another, discover our gift only to find ourselves attempting to run from the inevitable fact that we are simply destined to make a difference in this thing we call “life.”
